Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

The Source: Haitian slaves and the fight for liberty

I am really enjoying Mike Duncan's latest Revolutions podcast series on the Haitian slave revolt. While ideals of freedoms and equality were taken over by the violence and brutality that followed, the Haitian revolution represents the world's only successful slave uprising in history. Edward E. Baptiste describes it as "The most revolutionary of revolutions in an age of them," in his recent book on slavery.

Duncan, meanwhile, is currently up to episode 16 in his podcast series, the point where the French force sent by Napoleon is decimated by Yellow Fever. Duncan's obsessive attention detail is what impresses me. Every character and every event of any note is included in the narrative, so that no stone is left unturned.
