Parkland high school student calls “BS” on Trump and gun lobby
Emma Gonzalez, 17, delivers a powerful, at times upsetting speech, channelling all the frustrations of a community that has been ripped apart by gun violence.
After the 2012 Newtown elementary school massacre, Congressional inaction led many to doubt that meaningful gun ownership laws would ever come to pass. The dignified resolve of those children’s parents did not convince Republican lawmakers to wean themselves off the NRA Kool-Aid. If dignity will not work, then perhaps there is a place for fury. I can’t help thinking that the anger of these young adults at Parkland and elsewhere can be used to apply pressure on the GOP, and ultimately become a vote winner for those on the side of gun control. Have we reached a tipping point?
