It is a complete disgrace that football's world governing body, FIFA, still exists. It is a vehicle for corruption and has, in its bidding process for the next two world cups, rewarded despots, facilitated workers' exploitation (witness the blind eye to Qatar's use of cheap labour to build its stadiums) and besmirched the name of the game it is supposed to promote. Perhaps the most outrageous findings from the latest series of revelations is that Russia, the home of the KGB, has lost its records on the meetings that its people had with FIFA members, whereby it is quite likely that money changed hands. Russia and Qatar ought to be stripped of their right to host the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. It will only take a few national federations to leave FIFA for meaningful reform to commence, and for FIFA's demise to follow.
