Version Française

One of the most interesting things from this article, which contains an interview with French historian Nicholas Offenstadt, is his assertion that the French are still coming to terms with the effects of the Great War. Perhaps the country's difficulties in accepting and protecting people from different races stems, in part, from how history was written, with the glossing over the role played by its colonial troops. Many of these non-white soldiers were forced to fight for France, which makes their sacrifice all the more heroic. The far right in France can have no answer to such a narrative, and so seeks to ignore or it.
