The Tories believe that the way to tackle discipline in the classroom is for teachers to have the right to search students for knives. I am a teacher - I don't want to search my kids. It would be far more likely to lead to confrontation and I would be far more at risk of being stabbed by attempting it. What if I found a gun? As a teacher, should I be expected to empty the cartridges? I'd rather teach history, as I do currently. This smacks of opportunism, and of Cameron's desire to appeal to the bring back flogging brigade, rather than any real attempt to introduce a workable solution. If The Conservatives were serious they would consult the teaching unions, who defend teachers who have been attacked by students. And they would click on this link.
