Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

An open letter to Chuka Umunna

The new MP for Streatham will be receiving this through the post:

Equality Pledge

Dear Mr Umunna

Congratulations on being elected MP for Streatham.

I am writing to you as a member of the London Equality Group. You will remember that before the election you signed the Equality Pledge:

Compelling new evidence presented by The Equality Trust shows that more equal societies - those with a narrower gap between rich and poor – are more cohesive, healthier, suffer fewer social problems and are more environmentally sustainable. In view of these findings I am committed to making the UK a more equal society as the most effective means of building a better society. I will therefore actively support the case for policies designed to narrow the gap between rich and poor; and engage with the debate on exactly which measures should be implemented to achieve that aim.

We are now looking to all MPs who signed the Pledge to consider all policies proposed by the new government in the light of the effect they will have on equality and inequality.

The London Equality Group will be letting you know of our views on significant proposals that will affect equality. We would like to work closely with a selection of MPs from all parties e.g. by holding a round table discussion on issues of equality and inequality in London and nationally. Would you consider being part of such a round table discussion? We are also proposing to hold a major event at which issues of equality will be debated which we hope you will consider attending.

We look forward to working with you in the coming years to achieve greater equality for the people of London.

Yours sincerely
