Too little, too late

While it has become fashionable for conservatives to attack the Bush administration, rarely are these attacks followed by praise for the Clintons. Yet Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Federal Reserve and self-styled “libertarian Republican”, has done just that. Bush’s tax cuts, which were doled out to the richest 1% of Americans, were highly irresponsible, the 81 year-old writes. Clinton, meanwhile, had "a consistent, disciplined focus on long-term economic growth."

The frustrating thing about this bandwagon of criticism is that it began after the damage was done. Some might say hindsight is a wonderful thing. Yet would Greenspan have reserved comments on a Gore administration the same way he delayed attacking Bush? Did he need to give Bush photo ops on the White House lawn?
